Now I am an expert in Digital Marketing and also provide training to working professionals, business owners, and students. While I train my classes, I realize that they must have a glossary with all Important digital marketing terms.

Below given collections of digital marketing terms are in form of questions that might be asked in the interview. Answers are brief and to the point and should be answered in the same way.

What is CTR?

CTR is the short form of Click-Through Rate. It is simply the ratio of the number of users who clicks on a link vs the number of users who viewed that link. Example – Suppose 100 users viewed an advertisement on Facebook and 50 users clicked on that. Thus the CTR is 50%.

What is Impressions?

Every time advertisement is fetched it is counted as an Impression.

What are ad campaigns?

Ad campaigns are a set of advertisements that focus on a common goal to achieve business conversions.

What is ad targeting?

Ad targeting is a feature of online advertising where advertisers can choose to show their advertisement only to a specific set of audiences based on their demographic and psychographic profile.

What is bid amount in Google ads?

A bid is an amount that an advertiser is willing to pay for specific activities such as clicks, impressions, views, downloads, etc.

What is CPC?

CPC is the cost per click. It is a cost that advertisers pay for every single click.

What is PPC?

PPC stands for Pay Per Click. It is the amount that advertisers pay for each click. This is commonly used in Google Search Ad’s bidding.

What is CPM?

CPM stands for Cost per mile and is also known as cost per thousand. It is used to measure the price of an advertisement per one thousand impressions or clicks.

What is Organic reach?

It is the number of users who saw your content without it being boosted using paid ads.

What is inorganic reach?

It is the number of users who saw your content after it was boosted using paid ads.

What is direct traffic?

Direct traffic is when someone reaches a website directly either by typing the URL or using browser features such as bookmarks.

What are referral traffic?

Referral traffic is people who reached a website by clicking on a link on other websites. You can also say that referral traffic comes from backlinks.

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process to optimize your website in order to increase visibility on search engines.

What is On-page Optimization?

On-page optimization is a process to improve visibility on search engines by implementing optimization techniques within the website. This includes adding relevant keywords and key phrases in title, heading, meta descriptions, title, etc.

What is Off-page optimization?

On-page optimization is a process to improve visibility on search engines by implementing optimization techniques outside your website. This includes creating backlinks, social posting, etc.

What is DA or Domain Authority?

DA or Domain Authority is a scoring system developed by MOZ to predict a website’s position on SERP. The scores range from 1 to 100. A higher score means a higher is ranking.

What is Meta Description?

A meta description is an HTML tag that provides a summary of a particular page. It appears like a snippet within the search result on SERP.

What are tags or metadata?

Tags or metadata are words or phrases that describe any content.

What is a hashtag?

A hashtag is a word or a phrase having a prefix sign “#” representing a topic for any specific content.

According to YouTube, there are 6 types of YouTube Ads in 2022:

  1. Skippable in-stream ads
  2. Non-skippable in-stream ads
  3. In-feed video ads
  4. Bumper ads

How do YouTube skippable ads or YouTube skippable in-stream ads work in 2022?

Skippable ads appear before, in between, or end of video content. A user can skip these ads after 5 seconds. The advertiser pays for skippable ads on CPV or Cost Per View basis only if the viewer watches the ad for 30 seconds or full video in case of video is shorter than 30 seconds.

How do YouTube non-skippable ads or YouTube non-skippable in-stream ads work in 2022?

Non-skippable ads are 15 seconds or shorter video ads that may appear before, during, or after video content. Viewers don`t have the option to skip the ad. Advertisers have to pay based on a CPM basis i.e. have to pay if the video ad gets an impression during a video.

What are YouTube bumper ads?

Non-skippable ads are 6 seconds or shorter video ads that may appear before, during, or after video content. Viewers don`t have the option to skip the ad. Advertisers have to pay based on a CPM basis i.e. have to pay if the video ad gets an impression during a video.

What are display ads?

Display ads or display advertising or display advertisement are forms of advertisements often made up of text, images, rich media, and videos to attract traffic on websites, increase views or attract the audience on social media platforms.

What are search ads?

Search ads or Search Advertisements or search advertising are forms of advertisement that are shown on search engines based on specific user queries.

What is Google Display network?

Google display network is a group of websites where advertisements from Google ads are shown. It comprises more than 2 million sites acting as publishers for Google ads and is known as Google Display Partners.

What is bounce rate?

Bounce rate is the percentage of users who navigate away from the website without doing any activity and visiting only one page. A bounce rate between 26% to 40% is excellent, 41% to 55% is average and 56% to 75% is higher than average. Anything above 75% is bad.
