As per a tweet by Elon Musk, Twitter may soon charge for a blue tick on a verified account. The blue tick on Twitter is for verified accounts and can be obtained after review and consideration by the company.
“Whole verification process is being revamped right now” Musk said in a tweet when he was replying to a user who complained that he was denied the prestigious blue tick despite having a large follower base. While there is no official statement from Twitter yet, a report in The Verge says that Twitter will soon be charging for such verified accounts.
Seems just speculation, but the report also says that the Blue tick will only be available to Twitter Blue Members which is Twitter’s subscription program that allows users to edit and undo tweets. The feature to edit tweets was made available earlier this month after Musk asked his millions of followers in a poll if they wanted this feature and 70% voted as yes.
The company is reportedly planning to increase the fees to $19.99 and may provide 90 days to those who already got a blue tick and want to subscribe.
Reportedly, Twitter employees are already given deadlines to revamp the verification process. It’s been a week since Musk fired some top management team as soon as he signed and acquired Twitter. The group included CEO Parag Agarwal, CFO Need Sehgal, and policy chief Vijay Gadda.
